Rear speaker wiring problem

Post by DevonMark »

Image

The left hand rear speaker in our van isn't working properly (very quiet and no bass). I removed the left speaker and plugged it in to the wiring on the right hand side and it worked perfectly, so it appears to be something wrong with the wiring rather than the speaker itself.

What could be causing this? Old speaker wire that needs replacing? The speaker has been like this since we bought the van three weeks ago.

most likely is the wiring is cheap bell wire that has degraded, check all connections of any resistance, I would personally just renew the wire from the head unit to the speaker

Balance is adjusted OK. Haven't checked the connections on the back of the head unit yet - if I'm honest I've no idea how to get to 'em! Any advice for a novice? :?

These units usually need two small thin metal pullers to withdraw it from the front. These just hook it out from the sides and you can get them cheap almost certainly off baye. Otherwise you might be able to access the wiring plug underneath the dash by getting on your back on the seats...,.not ideal.

My novice status is exposed again :) Yes Kev, you're absolutely right, I do have a tray tidy - will take it off then remove the ashtray and then I might be able to see what's going on with the wiring!
