That is good to hear, as you have used your van for the same things as me. So with the early system is your tank half full or brimmed? I'm a bit confused as you mentioned that you got told that one tank isnt enough, but thats what you have.

How come that is all you had? didnt the DJ have the correct tanks?
I think it was something to do with capacity. Although Neil and Slobbo don't seem to be having issues.
I really can't remember how the DJ tanks looked or why they could not be used. As I went from petrol to diesel I didn't have all the parts from a JX. So extra parts like power steering pump an bracket is from a golf so I can't use the original oil filler etc. This isn't an issue as I now have a recon turbo and it doesn't use any oil.
I leave a small gap at the top of the tank. If there is too much water it spits it out. I had the low level light flash once before. I put in a drop of water and it has been fine since.

Tom, just from doing plumbing systems ect. You will do far better with a tank designed to be a expansion tank (ie with a air gap in it) at the moment all the expansion is being dealt with by your pipes, putting undue stress on them. As you've found out though, the expansion on 16L of water is minimal, especially with a 50/50 coolant mix as I think coolant expands at a smaller rate.
I am going down this route, just need to sort bits and pieces out

That's not an ALH.its a pd of some type..and quite at home in there it seems.
Ive got all the bits bar the coolant tank and the top and bottom rad hose. Once I've got them I'll start making a plan. When I do it I want to do a few other bits like fit the proper AFN fuel filter to the engine block, and squeeze in the jx air filter as I don't want the Apollo anymore, then get all the air ducting and snorkel made up in stainless, as I'll have to route it a similar way to jeds and I don't want it in flexi pipe in case it gets damaged

Magnaflows are good, they won't cure a blocked system or make a partially blocked system work better. But they do get rid of any crap floating around in the system. It's a good thing to fit when a new boiler is installed (fitted on return next to boiler) it'll stop any crap getting in the new boiler
They're magnetic, right, hence the name?
It's just that when our tenant called for the boiler to be tickled whilst we were away, they tried to sell him one, since they'd found a slug in the pipework. I wasn't aware slugs were ferrous... <grin>
