1.6 Golf GTD are they same as T3 1.6 Diesel Head?

Hi folks,

I have a Mk2 Golf GTD which I'm trying to get on the road again. I've been advised by my Mechanic that the head is cracked.

Are the heads on the T3 1.6 Diesel the same? As these seem to be available a little easier.

No....the GTD featured hydraulic tappets and may not fit the earlyblocks, it might go on to a later TD JX engine, however, all the vw diesel heads crack between the valve seats and it is in fact ok as long as the cracks are small according to vw themselfs, another cracks are a problem.

Thanks for your reply so would you say that a jx head would be ok? Have thought about getting head welded etc but no really sure

Yes JX head should go onto a Sb or gtd block.

I might be wrong but a JX head has shim adjusted solid buckets diffrent gasket .The gt &sb block has an extra oil gallery requires a hydaulic bucket head & gasket to match.
