Hi All
Getting ready to pick up our 1990 1.6 DT Westy, I'm trying to prepare for what spares may be needed. Can anyone help as to what people carry on board or have in the garage for this modle?
So far I have bulbs, fuses and sealing tape.
Many thanks in advance for any assistance.
Phil..

A LHD throttle cable and gaffer tape. A lot of other bits are reasonably easy to find but the lhd throttle cable is not and when it breaks...........! Both Brickwerks and JK have GEMO cables in stock. For some reason JKs are cheaper.

Hi Patric
Funny you should suggest throttle cable, as that was my only concern when on test drive. It stuck a couple of times, due to rubbing on engine housing. I have looked all over to get one, finally got it from VW Heritage.
Do you carry any fan belts ect.

Re: What Spare's Do I Need
Yes, I also carry a spare fan belt, voltage regulator, fuses (bullet type in my case, and copper if I can find them) bulbs, oil, tow rope, jump leads, antifreeze, windscreen washer liquid plus a toolkit and fire extinguisher. I plan to carry a spare water pump when I have clarified which one I need. To me those are the basics. If it needs more then I get a garage to do it.

Re: What Spare's Do I Need
I carry a range of spares down to a complete driveshaft with CVs.
But I often drive 2000 km holidays.
I have a throttle cable for a LHD JX set up but I don't have a JX anymore.

Hi T
I have now read link which is very good, thanks.
I was interested if the 1.6 DT had any special requirements, but the recent post has given some good advise.
