i am having electrical cut-out issues and have opted firstly to fit a new ignition kit; having problems selecting the right parts though. Just Kampers are offering a distributor and cap for £118.. but it turns out that the cap is the pin type - a later version than the one existing.. (i think the pin version is post 85, but my van is 84)
Am i right in thinking that - since i am doing a full coil,HT lead, dizzy change - that i can get this item from JK with a compatible lead set to the dizzy cap and it will all work fine? Is there a post and pre 84 coil that i need to concern myself with?
Help appreciated..

Just kampers have mis-sold distributors for years
What sticker is on your coil?
..and why do you need a completely new distributor as they rarely fail?
complete spark failure at the king lead, is usually the hall sender

lots of pertinent points raised there Kev.
I will need to have a closer look at the coil, but first inspection doesnt throw up much in the way of info.. it states the obvious, and thats about it..
As regards the distributor.. is the plate beneath the rotor arm supposed to be loose? i suspect not.. i had never noticed it previously..
I should explain that this overhaul was triggered just after the cap dislodged itself from its seat on the M40 and the rotor arm remodelled the inside of it like a pair of artisan potters hands!

to add to this.. note that
...just before this event, i was suffering from intermittent loss of power and misfire. I do have spark, but the engine runs very lumpy.. The coil seems bottom of the class to me in terms of bad behaviour.. but not sure about the state of the dizzy since the duffing up it got on the M40..

Wait.. the arm shagged the cap, OK... the advance plate should move the spindle with the arm.
Is the lumpy engine post shagging of the cap?
has the timing been Re-checked for your engine type?

Engine was running badly before the distributor cap problems,.. Which is why I am opting to change the leads and the coil.. And I'll see what state the distributor is in the process. Cheers.
