Taking Windows Out

Post by bokobillycamper »

How difficult is this job? I assume the seals are destroyed in the process.

We have small areas of rust on several windows. It seems OTT to go for the full respray at the moment and some treatment now would last another few years I am sure.

It's not difficult mate. Front and rear windows you have to destroy well I do anyway. But side windows should all
Come apart. Have a look. Should be self explanatory

Its quite easy to take the glass out i recently did mine to sort out some rust spots under the seals, to remove mine i wedged some small blocks of wood under the seal from inside the van about 2 thirds around the window, i spaced the blocks about 50mm apart a gentle push on the glass and out they come. Put 'em back using the rope trick! The rear side windows i found to be a pain to get back in as the the corners where the plastic air vent things go are as tight as a glassblowers cheek.

I managed to do mine single handedly and put them back in too but i reckon it would have been a little easier with another pair of hands on the job. :D

Thanks for the encouragement!

Rear window on the panel van has been out for several days and the rust spot treated.

Hoping to refit this evening - will update if successful or sulk if not.

If this works I can have a go at the pop-top as there are some spots on most of the windows - certainly not major but annoying little bugg*rs that will only get worse.

Failed yesterday but got the blighter in this afternoon.

The seal from VW Heritage seemeds a bit oversize and it took an awful lot of pushing to get it to sit in the hole.

I don't think I am destined for a career with Autoglass!
