Okay, my question is to what extent can I modify a seat base to make it fit? Reason being is that I've recently removed some shoddy old ford seats that on closer inspection look like they were bolted to the original VW runners with what I can only describe as Meccano...
So I was wandering what boundaries there are, am I able to cut and change seat bases or completely remake ones to fit in order to get my desired seats?
I've tried to 'Google' the law on this but the only thing official that seems to pop up is about child seats. Any knowledge on this subject would be a great help.

do whatever you like but ensure the seat will remain fixed in the fwd position (if swivel fitted)and is secure.

Re: Law on fitting new seats?
I actually did this mod a while ago but I've been doing a lot of work on the van recently (mainly a new coat of paint
) and decided that I'd share
my new front T4 driver and bench seat
I knew that I needed an early 90's set as the later models come with a middle 3 point belt, this would get it the way of the passanger seat base.
Ebay, as per usual had the answer. £50
. And off to Brighton we went. (wish the guy selling them had warned me that it was pride weekend, but thats another story...)
So the drivers seat was a breeze to fit, just had to cut down the runners a little to fit the T25 ones (pic to follow)
And with MM's advice I set about removing all unwanted metal from the seat base of the twin bench.
My first idea didnt go to great, but no turning back.
I ended up cutting the entire lower section of the base away so there was only the rim that holds the seat in place remaining.
This was the perfect hight as it matched the hight of the drivers side. Just as I had planned
so then I reinforced what was left of the base with some 1'' box section making a frame to fit inside and for support on the overhang side.
I may add I learnt to weld this day too, but as long as it didnt move I was happy
Thats pretty much it without pictures, I'll put some up tomorrw. I just wanted to share as I'm well chuffed with it
