About to get a tow truck and get the van towed to the scrapyard I have done everything now and still no van.
Replacement pump fitted starts but it is dragging so much air in to the see through fuel filter that the engine cuts out and then it wont tick over, I have replaced all the hoses from filter to pump and replaced fuel filter, please any advice would be gratefully received.

Re: Air in diesel fuel line, help.
For a start - why two fuel filters? Or are you not using the standard one?
As I always tell people - pressurize the line with diesel in to find the leak as you will not find it normally as it is on the suction side.

I just added one of those see through filters as a way of seeing what is going on and I can see loads of air being drawn in from somewhere?

Could it come from as far back as the tank?

Re: Air in diesel fuel line, help.
Yes, it could come from anywhere along the length but usually on higher portions of the line where the fuel runs away from the leak point, lower loops/sections are more likely to show signs of weepage.
You haven't fitted fuel hose that has too large a bore have you? You haven't used jubilee clips on small hose either? - they can tighten up unevenly unlike kosher fuel line clips.

Re: Air in diesel fuel line, help.
Has the fuel filter got a thermostat valve for the return fuel.As these can leak air into the filter cannister due to the seal where it fits into the filter.
Re: Air in diesel fuel line, help.
Cheers guys found the problem, my leak off pipes go into the top of the pump and then off towards the fuel tank not back to the filter like some I have seen, the banjo screw (sorry dont know its name) was the wrong one it should have only had a small hole to restrict the fuel but in the fitting the wrong one had been fitted, it is running a bit fast but there is no air in the fuel line and it starts first crank.
been 9 weeks off the road.
