Weight of a Caravelle shell?

Post by syncropatrick »

Hi, anyone know the weight of a roofless caravelle bare shell with all doors? I've got a shell to send to the scrappers and wonder what the weight is. There is no engine, gearbox, interior. It's just the shell with 4 standard wheels and no roof.
cheers
Patrick.

don't scrap the rear trailing arms and hubs unless they are foooobarred they are worth more than the scrap price
steering rack, steering relay box, brake calipers and carriers all worth salvaging too, and the rusty brake valve :ok

It really depends if you can take it to the weighbridge yourself. If you have no choice but to get them to pick it up they'll no doubt give you some story thats its not worth much, And try giving you less than £100. Last time I looked Scrap was 170 a tonne. But renting a 4 tonne truck with a HIAB is gonna cost you £80. Ring round a few scrappies and get quotes. Otherwise you'll be guessing.

Thanks both. Sounds like a further strip is worth it before the wheel-less shell gets weighed in. I'm not going to chop it up myself and don't want the bother of taking it. I'll ring around the local scrap metal merchants for a collection and get the best price I can. Are the doors and glass worth keeping? The doors all have Dehler trim on them but are in good regardless.

Pretty much anything that will come off is worth money!
Doors 25 quid
sliding door 50-150 quid
tailgate 60-100 quid

With body panels, If it aint rusty people will buy it. If you dont want to do the work yourself people are usually happy to come and remove theyre own bits for a cheaper price. Plus some of the parts are becoming rare seems a shame for someone to pay you pennys for it and then throw it in the crusher.
