Plastic Wheel trim cleaning

Post by getunder »

On my signifcant other car a Rover 45 :D the slots in the front plastic wheel trims have baked on dark brown gunge which will not come off despite using concentrated Flash, Turps, Meths and Cellulose thinners although the latter helped a bit with vigorous scrubbing with a tooth brush. As they are original complete with badge I would like to keep them. They are silver paint so can't use paint stripper. Any thoughts apart from painting over slots with aluminium paint or searching scrap yards for rear wheel trims which don't seem to build dirt up.

Tried alloy wheel cleaner?
Makes the cuts in your fingers sting so I'd guess it's acidic.
Gets most of the crap off of alloy wheels pretty effectively so why not plastic trims?
