has any one used or got one of these installed im looking to get one but worried that with the heat of the engine in the engine bay will be above 79 being a Aircooled or please say im completely wrong

I install sprinkler systems for a living generally the discharge temp is set at 68 or 93. Never come across one set at 79 but then perfectly feasable my concern would be that if temp did reach 79 without fire then you would have hell of a mess to clean up also the glass vial could easily get smashed...!. lots of fire extinguishers are now mass produced in Asia and can be unreliable ... If you really did want engine bay protection you could take a pipe from water storage tank and sump pump to engine bay using horizontal spray head to give spray pattern across area then simply flick switch on water pump when you see flames !! A little excessive but good fun (sry got carried away) but seriously at 40 quid a pop I woulzdnt bother id be interested to know how many of these actually put fires out compared to accidental discharge ...very few me thinks

agreed, wouldnt go near it, fit one as per rally style but keep the release manual where you can get to it,
tell me why the specific temps for sprinkler release?

Different temps for different risks standard is 68 red bulb 93 green 141 blue ,just put blues in a ink production area with the risk being flash fires ,basically its down to the insurance requirements but as a rule you need to have a bulb rated at 30 degrees above maximum ambient temp of area to be protected

I work as an ambulance driver for Liverpool City Council (Social services). All of our 40 + vehicles are fitted with a device called Firetrace. This consists of red plastic tubing which laces in and around the engine bay. In the event of an engine fire, the flames would melt the tube nearest to it and this would release foam under pressure to extinguish the fire before it has a chance to take hold. I have never heard of one malfunctioning - but I have also never heard of one of our vehicles having an engine fire either, so cannot comment on their usefulness from first hand experience. I do think this system is a good idea though, at least in theory. (We also carry two hand held extinguishers on each vehicle)

Nowt wrong with the JK one, very popular on boats and UK made. Just some thought need to be put in on mounting it so it covers the likely areas of ignition (carb/fuel pump) without obstructions.
