And a pleasant surprise it was, a friend of mine negotiated a trade for my less loved non MOTed Discovery 200TDi and brought me a fugly 86 Syncro GL with a 1,9TDK instead.

Fugly because one of the former owners decided to roll the car in something resembling the old Sharp lozinge blackcurrant colour and made a horrible job of it, so its orange peel galore and a rather less than nice colour.

I had the basic knowledge of the details beforehand, but I was pleasantly surprised when it came. It has had a camper interior somewhere in its history and is registed as a camper and have the full width backseat bed. Its MOTed this year and have fresh brakes, CV joints and some other front end work as well as the the humongous sunroof, so no surprises there.

The surprises came with diff locks on both ends, captains chair with a swivelling front passenger one, new starter, clutch and the Puch marks and a registry in the North of Norway where they dont salt the roads and according to my buddy it dont have much rust... :D

Took it for a two hour drive around the neighbourhood back and logging roads and its a very well behaved vehicle.

Needs a bit of fiddeling in the gear linkage department (sloppy shifting) and a look at the frontlights as they went out a couple of times when I was on the manual switch (it has a automatic driving light), so needs to be switched to manual to get the highlights to click on, also in need of a proper washing both inside and out.

Anyhow, I`m quite exited and will give it a more thorough inspection tomorrow. :D

Some more driving, pics, wash and some prodding today...

Image

A nice bagde.

Image

Ohh, you`re a dirty, dirty car...
With an electrolux exhaust (shiny thing on the middle) and one bonus curtain...

Image

Right side

Image

Well used cabinshot, the mileage on the speedometer is 382K...

Image

And a happy camper.

Found two rustholes, one in each instep and a bit here and there on the seams, the undercarriage was in remarkable good conditon.

I`ll get cracking on some heavier washing tomorrow. Ran some degreaser and a high pressure steamer today, after the pictures was taken but the muck seems to be more or less ingrown on the cracking paintjob and the interior I think needs some solvent as grimy dont begin to express the state of it. The fellow I got it from have used it as a daily driver and got 60K on it in a year, so it should atleast be mechanically sound. :ok

More pics of this and that, did a serious washing of the exterior today with something called "Kraftvask" (Powerwash), a stiff broom and the garden hose today. Got rid of the most of the muck and some of the paint...

Image

As shiny as it get without mechanical means such as a sander.

A assortment of details:

Image

The swivelling chair in the social posistion. :D

Image
Image

A puny battery under the seat, with a tiny switchbox on the side - possibly a left over from the campervan interior.

Image

The humongous sunroof.

Image

Backseat - needs atleast one more headrest.

Image

Seat hinge.

Image

Under the backseat - just lifting the bottom.

Image

Perhaps there have been LT mirrors on it once ? Same hole in both front doors.

Image

And additional seatbelts - may have been a minibus somewhere in its history. perhaps ?. Just rummaging around inside of this is quite entertaining. Mucho stuff to find.

Anyone that may have insights of any of the details shown, please chime in as to what model the details may stem from. :D
Best regards
