Just the one panel???

Post by Nij »

Image

I am hoping I can get away with just the one panel here around the fuel cap.
Where is the best/cheapest place to get a panel from (or would a cut work out cheaper)?

Cheers in advance
Nij

PS I have slapped some red oxide primer on just to stop any more tin worm attacking as the vehicle is outside and still in use - it has had a splash or so of vatican

No expert but I reckon the B post looks to have some tinworm too. Schofields are meant to be ok for panels. Or if you go on classicparts.de you'll find vw are selling a LOT of panels now

I have a feeling that that panel is only available non genuine and they are possibly the the worst of all the repair panels available...so a cut would be a better option...the post will most likely be holed at some point but is fairly easy to patch up to good standard....and no repair is available above to lower sewage line anyway so would mean a full post would need to be used if available....try and get a cut with the edge of the post still on it is the answer here.

Will do mate thanks.

The post is fairly sound, no holes (hence why I have attacked it now rather than later) - any ideas of where to source a cut?

hi nige, youll be lucky if you find a cut that is good, but if you can then do it, aftermarket then thers not much in it, eitherway just cut the bit you want say from a couple of inches in front of the filler, you really dont want to fit all as its dire quality,
same again with the b post , its finding a good one, there is a lower repair panal available for the b post, but its skinny metal again ,and only goes to the swage not the bit above.
have a look at the ajitvagon , same thing , didnt look bad from the outside , well ok it wasnt nice but poke about and you'll find it, nice thing about making bits is you use nice 1.2-1.4mm sheet. luvly

Must admit MM, I am thinking of makin my own repair panel. The b post is solid thank god :) just needs a touch of filler (it's not as deep as the pics make out it is).
