What's this pipe called?

Post by andydormer »

Hi All,
Newbie question here - Whats this pipe called? Left (near) side of engine. Looks like its due for replacement - picture doesn't do the cracks by the jubilee clips justice. Are there any fluids / leaks / bleeding needed when changing this pipe?

Pipe to the right is the petrol return pipe - also being replaced.

Vacuum hose mate. Connects inlet manifold to brake servo. No fluids to worry about or bleeding. Simple little job to replace but you will need VACUUM rated hose.

It's the vacuum hose to the brake booster.
it should be made from rigid plastic to stop it collapsing.

the HT leads look like they've seen better days aswell :D

....and you can only usually get it in long lengths, when you only need a short bit. I've still got some left from changing the one on Vinnie at Christmas. If you want some drop me a PM and I'll stick a suitably sized length in the post for you.

As others have said, this needs to be vacuum pipe. Normal coolant or oil grade hose will collapse and your brake pedal will go hard as the vacuum is used and not replaced.
