AAZ just won't fire

Post by dekhelia »

Got me stumped, this one. Put this AAZ in to replace a JX, and have had it running sweetly on Easy Start. So I know it runs and is timed up correctly.

But it just won't run on its own diesel. In fact, even after towing it for three miles, the injectors are dry - nothing there.

The pump got pretty warm after the tow, meaning that obviously it's trying to pump something ... just that that something must be air rather than diesel.

I've manually filled the pump - still no joy.

Am I looking at a knackered DI unit?

Will the JX injection pump from the old engine bolt straight on? I realise that it will provide JX amounts of fuel and therefore power etc - but will it just go straight on without mods?

As with all jobs like this, I've started to lose perspective somewhat and could do with some input!

Hm. Got the thing going ... I had put electrical connector to IP on wrong terminal (there are 2 of these, on the JX there was only 1).

Now just got to deal with a leaky injector, and we're done. And the throttle adapter thing. And probably some other stuff.

But it sounds like a good motor, quiet and smooth. No idea how many miles it had on it, but it can't be much over 100k.

Only takes a tiny squirt - it's very volatile, almost like jet kerosene - not sure if it is that, though.

You can use loads if you want, but it'll make the engine run unregulated. The motor can't seem to get enough of the stuff, almost as if it's automotive crystal meth ... ideally, what you want is an assistant cranking the engine, while you feed it the drugs in a small but steady stream.
