URGENT HELP NEEDED : cooling fan

Post by tone »

What started off as a simple job has turned into a nightmare ! - my van has been in garage for the last two weeks - whilst trying to change a temperature sensor I've ended up having to get a new radiator and now the fan has packed in .The only way I can get a fan is second hand - Billy739 tells me there is a Busfest in Malvern this weekend where he thinks there may be one or two fans for sale. I live on the Isle of wight - is anyone able to get me one and send it to me or has anyone got one for sale - my van is an 89 2.1 petrol but I'm told any t25 model cooling fan should fit. I would be eternally grateful if anyone can help - there are a couple on Ebay but you never really know what you're buying and whether it is actually working or not. I can send the money by any means required.

Thanks ( in hopeful anticipation )

Yet another twist to this nightmare - apparently I misunderstood - it wasn't the radiator fan it was the heater fan - it seized up when they were testing the cooling system . Its been in the garage now for 3 weeks - originally just for an mot and a new temperature sensor - since then its had a new radiator , 2 sensors and now a buggered heater box - new brakes were advisory ( I have no complaints about having that done) but now they've taken the dash out in preparation for another heater fan box ( that I can't find yet ) TBH I'm beginning to lose confidence - with all the labour the cost is already £600+ . I am thinking now I'll just cut my losses and get my van home ( with dash out ) and try to source a used heater box and fix it with the help of a friend who is good with spanners. Annoyingly it was running perfectly when I took it in other than the heater light coming on spasmodically ( then going off when I turned the engine on and off )

the heater blowers are very common.
new ones are available or do you want a second hand one?

My old petrol van did that, more something to do with the coolant level sender i thought?? As for the fan, buy new from b'werks or gsf, pretty cheap, split apart the heater box and remove old fan and fit new. If you buy an old heater box with a old fan it it, who's to say that won't seize 2 months down the line

thanks for this - the garage told me you can;t split the box which is why I have been looking for a whole new box - males me feel they don't really know about these old vans - at this price I'll get a new motor.

its glued together, but comes apart easy. Good luck, nothing worse than losing faith in the garage doing the repairs

i got the resisters for the 3 speeds replaced as well, as these can fail
