Starting Issue

Post by johnnybee »

Hi this is my first post. :?

I have a starting issue with my 1980 T25 1600 petrol.

having just bought the van I don't know how long its been apparent but the guy seems very genuine that it hasn't happened to him before. It started no problem for him when viewing and for myself on the first day of driving but now its almost every time i try to start up.

On starting the starter motor kicks once or twice and then goes completely dead, once its dead there is not even a tick when turning the key.

the only way to get it started is by jump starting, which it then starts first time. After its started its pot luck if it will start again or just give nothing.

I have replaced the battery for a brand new one thinking that the battery may be worn but the problem still persists.

any advice on where to start first??

Thanks! as suspected it was a wiring issue. found one or two joins in the wire connecting the ignition switch to the starter motor? new cable run, will connect tomorrow! :ok
