Go for a battery with UK code number 100.

like this:

On checkout use the promo code.. BATTERY15..and 15% will be deducted.

Can't diesels can take a bigger battery Martin, as they don't have a stupid box to put them in?

Code 100 are the biggest listed but there maybe a bit more space for something even bigger. You could take the van down to your local 'battery shop' and try a few options I suppose but they will undoutedly base their choices on the fitment listing books they have infront of them.
On the other hand Code 100 batteries do fit.

thanks for that,i assume the alternator just has to run on load longer to top up the battery,a bit more fuel for a lot more cranking amps seems a fair price to pay

Not really, you use the same .. and recharge the same..
bigger batteries have more lasting cranking power that's all.
