Right, got them sorted in the end. And no leaks now!

But....

The van idles quite roughly now, and is really underpowered. I couldn't even get up the slope on my drive.

What is causing this?

In order to change the pushrod tubes, you needed to remove the pushrods. In order to remove those, you needed to remove the rocker arms.

You've either swapped the rocker arms over, not got something correctly seated or just disturbed the valve timing enough to cause problems.

So you need to first check everything is fitted correctly, then you need to reset the valve timing.

Did you refit the spring that secures the pushrod tubes? Otherwise they'll work loose and leak again.

Yeh, refitted the spring. Everything seems to be fitted as it was. Perhaps il have a look at the timing tomorrow. Thanks.

When you fitted the rocker arms back on did you set the valves afterwards. If you've got a a standard CU engine with hydraulic lifters you need to set each pair of valves by first setting the No1 piston to TDC. Then you turn the rocker screw until it just touches the top on the valve stem, then you tighten it a further 1 and 1/2 turns. Then you turn the engine over 180' to line up the next piston at TDC and do the same with the next pair. (If you've got an engine with solid lifters you do the same but gap the rocker screw to 0.006" instead.)
2ltr Aircooled CU with twin Solex's & originally a 009 dizzie, but now back to standard.
