Well I'm back on the road again... after a right old stressfest!!!

It's been a nightmare. I took the van down to another mech (upon recommendation) and he mucked about for a day, charging me £200 quid for a very roughly running van... I thought OK, he's got it going but the timing isn't right... so I paid the man and t ook the van.

Next morning I'm taking the better half to work and POP! No1 spark plug blew out the engine! This recommended mech had stripped the thread in the cylinder head... I tried getting my money back from him but he wasn't playing ball... "bar-steward"!!! PS his name is Jan Hussar... a Polish guy fronting as a mechanic while promoting "Panther" oil additives. His shop is in Mid Wynd, Dundee.

Anyway, I got the cylinder head off and managed to get it repaired thanks to the generosity of a retired mech, 80 years old and charged me £3 for the job!! Needless to say he got a lot more than that to get himself a few pints!

I refitted the head and was battling with the starting again... discovered that the dizzy driveshaft was 180degs out... rearranged the cables and VOILA, it fired up sweet as a nut!

A wee bit power lacking, but I reckon a wee adjustment of the rockers will sort that out fine.

What a nightmare. Thanks everyone for popping in to advise and encourage, greatly appreciated.

Jock.
