air cooled replacement dizzy

Post by thebilby »

I have recently swapped my 009 for one of simon at BBC's vacuum advance dizzy's. Just bolt in and go. My question is- is anyone else running one of these and what is the best timing for it?
Is it best to set at max advance with the vacuum disconnected (i.e. 28 deg at 3000)

Any advice appreciated.

Hello,

What engine please, :?: :?:

These distributors are very good, I have had sucessful dealings with SimonBBC, :)

If you are running on 2 star petrol, try 8 degrees before tdc, at 800 rpm, vacuum pipe disconnected.

Did you change the coil at the same time :?:

Cordialement,

Running a 2.0 cu.

Coil was supplied.

Just done 850miles round France! Got about 22 mpg, wondering if the timing would improve that and help cooling?

Hello,

22 mpg. is not too bad for a 2 litre CU, :)

depends on how much chiipboard you are carrying :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

The only disadvantage with the setup over a conventional points and condensor dizzy is that the dwell angle is preset..

Try the setting as suggested and see if it improves things a little..

Cordialement,
