11.55 normal, 4 1/2 hrs to do a 100 miles  right on the led with the fan coming on and bringing it down to 11.57.
was at 11.57 but a flush(hose pipe only both ways nothing untoward flushed) and new coolant has gained me 3 minuets on the ''i think it's gonna blow jim''.

i must admit to looking down on the m42 (and scaring myself sh**less) to be doing 80mph  and still at 11.55 8)

When I had the JX motor it sat "comfortably to the left of the LED" with the ADY motor it sits down in the left hand white area.

Just changed rad and bled my 1.9l watercooled DG which moved the needle down from 3/4 to well below half way.

It did take a while for the new coolant to work its way around though, I had to open the bleed valve in the engine bay and park her facing down a steep hill, needed to run for a good half hour and i repeated the process 3 times before all bubbles were out. After that she was cool as a cucumber!

Mine runs bang in the middle 12.00 O clock......creeps up to 1.30 position after 5 minutes of slow hard driving (recent mountain passes in Austria for instance) then the first speed fan kicks in.

I have to say...a new fan thermo-switch brought down the fan cut in point a fair bit. I'm much more confident now about it's correct function. I would certainly recommend replacing this switch in the FIRST instance before changing radiators.

Mine's on a rev counter type and sits just on the LED at normal speeds (55 - 60 mph). Climbing steep hills and off roading it tends to creep up until the first stage fan kicks in. This soon brings the temp back down.

When I changed the coolant and flushed everything recently I also tested the fan and realised that the second stage doesn't work  Another job to add to the list.

When we've been off roading I have put the heater on to bring the temp down and that works pretty well although is a bit of a pain in the summer. If necessary on a long climb I would just pull over and let things cool down.

When we first had ours I starrted this thread because I had similar worries. https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=78520" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I found the responses very reassuring and so have been slightly less paranoid about it all since.

Off to South of France on Friday. That will be a good test especially when we go over the Cevennes to get to Uzes.

I think my heads where yours was when you started that thread :D . I searched the wiki but did not find yours but like you say its reassuring to read.
Good news is I think I may have cracked it after the fifth bleed! Needle now sits at 12.00. Happy days and I can now work on reducing my 'needle stare' :D

Hope you have a great trip to France.
