BREAKDOWN!

Post by JNW »

Made it 600 miles to Loch Ness. After an hour on the road today it starts cutting out at traffic lights, kangerooing a bit wwhen you take your foot off the accelerator. Finally stopped and took a lot of jumping to restart to get to campsite. Starts fine now.
Read everthing in the wiki. Got a spare ecu.
What's your best guesses out there?

Now it's fast idling when we stop but won't restart.

I'd check several things. It could be a fuelling issue with some sort of restriction in flow, worth checking Fuel filter under van for crud and tiny gauze filter in inlet of carb for clogging up. Check plugs, leads, rotor, cap. I'd also check and clean electrical connectors to coil, dizzy etc. good luck!

We have had 2 episodes that sound like your first post, and they were after going over a sharp bump and were probably some muck getting displaced and causing a fuel blockage. Not sure about your fast idling tho....

The "mechanic" :D changed fuel pipes today and renewed fuel filters....he said that they seemed to fill with bits of debris almost straight away. I feel that a new fuel tank will be on the cards at some point!

I know for sure I've got at least one rubber grommet in my tank waiting to disintegrate and clog up my carb!;)
