And you'll keep changing it because it won't seal, unless you fit it in a slightly different position to where the ring has worn on the mating surface of the flywheel or you replace the flywheel with a new one and it would be a good idea to check the end float of the crank whilst you have it down, you may extend the life of the engine by setting it correctly.

What tools are required to check the end float?

A DTI (dial test indicator) we use one on a magnetic base for ease, there should be no more or less than 0.15mm movement front to back

Is the end float adjustable Steve?

Yes there are a series of shims set behind the engine oil seal, if you remove the flywheel then pop out the oil seal measure the thickness of the complete set of shims you already have, reassemeble the flywheel to the engine and measure the end float, then add or subtract shims to make it up to 0.15mm movement, shims are avaialbe from most major suppliers and come in varying thicknesses from 0.24mm to 0.38mm and about half a dozen in between, also note the condition of the thrust washer on later motors and replace if in doubt.
