Lamp Upgrade Gone Wrong :-(

Post by Adama1979 »

Okay, I think I've been a little silly in trying to upgrade my headlights from the standard to hi intensity blue tinted lamps. I bought them off of ebay, fitted them and subsequently one blew as I turned them on for the 1st time. I have never had them working. As the lamps were only a fiver I quickly gave it up as a bad job and replaced the old lamps (shouldn't have messed around really). The problem is these originals will now not work. I have checked the fuses behind the glove box and all are intact, the side lights still work but not the main beam (or dipped, but these are part of the same lamp anyway so I wouldn't expect them to work).

After the fuse box, I'm at a loss really as to where the fault could be unless I've actually melted a wire somewhere I cannot find. All my other electrics work fine, it is just the head lights that don't work now.

Answers on a post card please, or failing that, this forum's fine.

check the headlamp switch. With no relays, all the current is drawn through the switch, they are known to melt. If you've fitted upgraded bulbs, you may well have killed the switch, especially if it was on its last legs

Ahh, I will do this. I assume some signs of scorching would be needed?

Thanks

Yeah, that's what I meant. Not sure on the wattage as I've thrown them away now. I'll upgrade the circuit at a later date with a tutorial I found here using relays and stuff.
