no invites needed! its always an open party!
Re: 12v iteams
You would be better investing in a Eberspacher.Propex.or a Webasto heater. If you intend on doing some winter camping.

you need 1.6 Kw to heat a van in 4 deg C... and maintain a comfortable temp.
Other twelve volt stuff... I use
Fresh water pump
Propex heater
TV.
DVD player.
surround sound.
Media player.
phone charger.
Lap top.
Hair straighteners.
50 Watt head unit and four speakers

75 ampere / hours means 1 amp for 75 hours or 75 amps for one hour and all values in between (basically, but not perfectly)
a 300watt heater would use 300/12 = 25amps. (1 watt = 1amp of current at a pressure of 1volt so 300 watts = 25amps at 12volts)
a fully charged, perfect condition 75a/h battery would therefore last a maximum of 3 hours powering your heater.
Your best bet would be to fit a Propex gas warm air heater or an Eberspacher petrol / diesel heater - depending on what fuel you use. They work all night long and get the van toastie warm in no time.

Re: 12v iteams
In realistic terms. For starters you don't want to drain a battery to it's completely flat, empty, dead state as it will significantly reduce the life of the battery. A good rule of thumb (battery type depending) is that you should only drain a battery down to 40% of it's original capacity, or in other words you've only got 60% of the battery to use.thebobster wrote:bicolour wrote:we looking to use the van though winter

a fully charged, perfect condition 75a/h battery would therefore last a maximum of 3 hours powering your heater.
So for example 100 Ah, 5 Amp load example: By your calculation you had 20 hours of time when drawing 5 amps, but in fact you only have 60% of that time, so 20 hours x 60% = 12 hours
If you factor in Peukert's Equation, the more current you draw the time you have reduces even further.

Re: 12v iteams
Latest addition to my van is a Three Mi-Fi. So now the kids can access the internet while we are on the move and the van becomes a mobile wi fi hot spot
Could even use it to steam live TV to lap top etc
Before long I think all cars will have it as standard. You can then use an Ipad or similar for all your entertainment, sat nav, telephone calls, e-mail, GPS tracking etc. I know some custom built interiors are already incorporating it. I haven't quite got to that stage yet.
