After searching through the forum, I'm looking for some pointers or help on a problem which I think maybe Injection Pump Timing?
I've got a AAZ 1.9td fitted with the manual cold start device from when the van had the JX engine. I've been experiencing problems with getting over 3000rpm without pulling out the CSD.
If I am driving along at about 80Kph at just under 3000rpm, the engine definitely struggles to get any faster and it seems to hit a dead spot at 3000rpm. Putting the foot to the floor has no effect and it definitely dies on hills, but if I pull out the CSD, the engine responds much better and can go way beyond 3000rpm and all round feels a lot nippier.
I read on the forum that the CSD has no effect over 2000rpm as it doesn't come into contact with the cam on the pump, the device really being there to assist by advancing the timing at low revs below 2000rpm.
I suspect it's pump timing which is out, but I can't figure out why the CSD seems to be having a significant effect over 3000rpm?
Would it be normal just to pull the cold start device out all the time or is it worth having the timing adjusted? I don't have the kit or knowledge to adjust it myself, it would be a garage job.
Any help or advise much appreciated.

Re: AAZ Pump Timing and Cold Start Device
Hello,
I'm probably way out here asI don't know your pump setup - but is it possibly you've connected the Cold Start Device to the LDA and boost-pin somehow? Just a thought. Usually if your timing was so far out to be giving you problems as 3000 rpm then I'd assume you'd be have starting issues. As I say though - I may well be wrong, and others on here who know a lot more about the non-tdi diesel engines will no doubt be along to offer advice.
Hope you find the problem ok
Ewen

Re: AAZ Pump Timing and Cold Start Device
Cheers Ewen,
No its definitely configured correct, in fact I've been running around with the AAZ engine for around 4 years. The problem has really only developed recently.
Its coincidence that I've just completed a 1000ish mile round trip in Ireland and it ran a treat. It starts first fire with the CSD and after a couple of turns without it.
I've got the garage who done the AAZ conversion having a look at it now. The mechanic I spoke to suspects the LDA (which I assume is the saucer shaped device on the top of the pump?)
