SMALL Fuel Leek from Carb + sticking choke, plenty pics!!

Hi,

Been looking around the engine bay as My t25 does not seem to run as well i think it should be.

1st item is the sticking choke, stays on until revved high?

also when in idle it runs lumpy like its missing a beat? not the flat hmmmm like ive seen other do? maybe a spark plug needs changing.

2nd the carb seems to have light fuel gunk around the seem and around pedal wire area?

3rd there seems to be a stray wire just mooching about with a 3pin connection

all this was in place when i brought this van a few weeks ago, im just trying to sus it out and get items sorted!!

I'll let someone who knows the carbs better advise on points 1 and 2.

As for the plug (point 3), you could safely cut it off if you like! It's for the VW diagnostic machine (TDC sensor), which no garage has these days. Just clip it out the way somewhere.

Leak around 'pedal wire area' will be throttle shaft wear which can also cause bad idling. Roger Ball (mentioned in carb section of WIKI) can sort that for you. Either that or source a less worn carb (not so easy). If it leaks fuel its also sucking in air and it won't get better without help.

This is the 'fast idle' and is supposed to stay on until you rev it when the engine is cold, a bi-metal spring controls the spindle and will release as it warms up.

The revs stay high until you blip the throttle due to the stepped cam shown in your photo, when warm the cam turns and the revs will drop once revved.

Try putting some thick grease around throttle shaft as this can seal it for a while, see if it makes a difference to idling.
