HELP PLEASE. AT DOVER FERRY TERMINAL AND SAIL AT 12:30
I have just drove from Norfolk to Dover and limped the last 50 miles. Pretty sure it is electrical or fuel pump and is intermittent. Started losing power last week after about 4miles then cleared. Details are on my other thread. On mobile so excuse spelling. The garage I took it to is pretty sure it is electrical or fuel pump so basically is there anyone out there near Dover that has spare parts for me to try as. I have changed ferry to 12:30 tonight.
Hope there is someone out there to help

Sorry to hear about your dilema, I've just recently replaced my fuel pump (old one still working) and would get it to you, but I'm very far away from you... very far
I truly hope you get some sort of assistance

Ps what's the fuel filter like? Clean or grotty? Any visual water separation in it?

Christofy,
You said previously it has been having short bursts of lack of power but only in warm up phase. A vehicle with a breakdown of power when accelerating that can be "cured " by lifting slowly off the gas until it suddenly accelerates smoothly on all four cyls again and then if you try to accelerate hard again it cuts back to three cyls until you ease off again. this is often a breakdown of the H.T. curcuit. Cracked inside dizzy cap, defective lead, fouled plug. and it's usually the plug. In the early stages it can be got round by easing off gas until lack of power goes and then only accel. slowly and ease off ever time lack of power reccurs, eventually the plug dries out until it can be driven normaly but the prob will keep happening most days.Another thing is carb icing in either cold or humid conditions when car starts and runs ok till app same distance when icing occurs causing lack of power. You get out, scratch your head and get back in and bigo rising heat from stationery engine has thawed carb and all ok till next morning at same point in jouney. But its not been cold or humid and you've already done pre heat pipe so prob dicount that. I would check operation of choke flap mechanism to see its not closing when it shouldn't as it would run like a sick pig if it did and you don't have another pump to try, though you could perhaps remove outlet pipe to see what delivery you're getting (observing safety over where you direct fuel discharge)
Wish I could be of more help but am over 300 mls away, good luck, Blacky
P.S. just seen tank has been off, may be as simple as crap in carb.

Chris have left you a voicemail.
My DG1.9 had a similar problem. It was a build up of static and dirt in the distributor. As the rotor went round it would sometimes miss a contact.
The AA got a can of electrical contact cleaner and sprayed it into the Dizzy body. That cleared the crap and all was OK again.

Members help list at = https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=54733" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (as Rob points out, that list is designated as members only viewing, but anyway I could not find a near enough person to help at this late stage).
At least it is intermittent so it cannot be anything TOO serious

I would first do as suggested above = take the fuel pipe of the carb, put it into a clear bottle, start engine, see how much fuel comes out of the pipe. It should be a fairly vigorous continuous flow, not a dribble. There is a tiny filter (metal gauze) INSIDE the brass petrol inlet pipe on the carb, you get it out with a very thin pokey thing )or a self tapper

Note = the engine will tick over off the fuel in the carb for around 2 or 3 minutes.
If the flow of fuel seems OK then it is likely to be electrical, but the fairly consistent nature of the problem, i.e. when warming up, is a bit odd. Faults like this that only occur when fully hot = easier to trace (coil, hall sensor (in dizzy) ignition amp etc).
Struggling to come up with more advice. Aren't intermittent faults a b1tch !
You WILL find and fix it and from then on your trip abroad will be fine and this hiccup summat to smile about in the future "remember when we nearly broke down before we even got on the ferry"
Just limp it onto the ferry and get to France, then think about it again. At least it ain't a loud knocking from the engine or summat equally serious. Perhaps when you get there you could call on your breakdown cover and a local French garage can trace it

Doh

What's this about =

Summat to do with dissolving any water sat at the bottom of your tank in the alcohol and thereby mixing it evenly with all the petrol perhaps ? I wonder if that works !
