How near? They have a site in the place I believe, although I'm not too certain. There's several at the right side of York, which is 30 miles away. Lovely site called "Wolds Way" where the tickled Pickering meet now takes place. Guessing but I reckon about 10 - 12 miles from Flamingo land. There's one near to Pickering too. Try googling camp sites in Pickering Nth Yorks. It should show loads.

Can't help re campsites.

I do remember a big fuss when, after Flamingo Land had paid a huge amount of money to put up road signs with pictures of a Flamingo on them and stating "Flamingo Park this way" - they were made to take them all down and replace them with ones with a picture of an Elephant on because that is the recognised symbol for wild life park / zoo :shock: :shock:

God bless common sense !

Just asked a mate about camp sites near there. He mentioned Vale of Pickering. It's £20 ish pn for 2 people. Lots of extras such as children, dogs etc.
How long you stopping? do you mind travelling a few miles or do you want to be VERY close. There's a C&CC site just outside York, cheap and cheerful by the look of it. There's a site over at Robin Hoods Bay (about 20-25 miles away, a lovely drive over the North Yorks Moors). It really does depend on exactly what you want to do with regards to travelling to the place. I think there's also some forest camping at Cropton Forest which isn't too far away. There's a site near Hole of Horcum that I often pass but I've never heard reports. Always seems to be space.
Whatever you do have a great time . When you going? For how long?

We went to Slimbridge wild fowl centre (occasional home of Springwatch), sadly would not go again. Expensive to get in, then once in it is just like a "Water bird zoo". We were expecting long walks to remote bird hides looking across the estuary etc, but no, fenced off areas with coffee shops etc. Just one hide we found, at the far end, not much to look at from it other than a bend in a small river.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aside = what we did not expect, when we set off to go there the night before, was a real ale festival in a field right next door :) !! With cheap camping !! AND the organisers were giving away 1/2 price entrance tickets to the wild fowl centre :) :) That made it OK I suppose ;)
Next year's one = http://www.slimbeerfest.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
