whining diff after several years standing?

Post by oorwullie »

i'm baffled by this , maybe someone has a simple explanation and cure?

1989 bus, gearbox and engine (2.1 ) with genuine 124,000km fitted a few years ago and bus driven for a few months with no noises.

last week started it up and drove for a few days and it's making a right hum from the rear end.......... :?

it's so loud that the swiss mot man said go away and change the gearbox.

but he was happy with nearly everything else. :ok

grump grump. :P

had it running up on the lift today and the noise seems to be from the nose section where i know there's a few cogwheels and stuff.can ye tell me where to find a good syncro gearbox book and the speshul tools required? replacing a bearing or 2 can't be that difficult............ :P

it's an AKG by the way. and we have the old one to practice on as well, it didn't have any gears at all............
