hi all. far from home with a 3 way fridge that acting up. on mains it works and when driving it also keeps nice and cold. but parked all day on a level spot it did not seem to work or worked very poor. its a RM122 or 12 dont have any papers with me and no sticker left

You mean it doesn't work on Gas?

It won't keep working on 12v with the engine off....

Hi it only works on 12v when the engine is on , you have to use gas when there is no 240 hookup

have not tried the gas this time so i cant answer that one. it simply does not work with the engine off but 99.9% the leisure battery is good . when hooked up to the mains it works fine. is it worth trying it on gas or a waste of effort as it does work on mains and when the bus is running?

as previous;y said it is NOT meant to work on 12v with engine off as it will flatten battery .


240v- hookup on site or before you leave home

12v - when driving along

gas - when parked when there is no 240v

I also have a fridge problem I could do with some help with, thought it best to post here than starting another fridge post. During the night on EHU the fridge stopped working, on the run home switched to 12v and it started working again. Yesterday went out again, same thing stopped working during night, worked on 12v on way home. Any ideas what is causing this?

The fridge works on mains electricity but that seem to be all it will work from. It doesn't work from 12V when going along and we cannot get it to work from the gas either. Not too bothered about gas at this point but would like it to be working when we are going along. We have the manual but neither of us can find out what the issue is It's Electrolux model RM4217. We are guessing that the fuse has gone but cannot see where the fuse is so any help on that would be a start! Thank you muchly lovely people!

You do know that the mains side is thermostatically controlled don't you?

Hi 1664, does that mean if I have the control up to high it will switch off? I had it up full then turned down to about 5 on the dial. Also do I need to get a vent fitted to the outside, to stop overheating. I have seen people fit electric fans to the rear to stop overheating too.

The thermostat will switch it on and off depending on how high/low it's set. You should be able to hear it 'click' when you turn it slowly. If it doesn't work no matter what the dial is set at then the element has probably gone - or the fuse of the mains supply to it (in plug for example).

Whether you need vents or not depends on the fridge. Some have a grilled openings at the top and bottom of the fridge to allow cooling internally in the van. If no grilled openings on the fridge external vent(s) are normally fitted. Some have fan assisted cooling (generally internally air cooled) but you shouldn't need it if the size of the openings allow a decent amount of air to pass over the heat exchanger. You have to vent the actual gas exhaust products outside whatever the case.

I will sound a right dolt now, but where is the thermostat switch. I dont think the element has gone, as it does get cold, but then goes off. Deff not the fuse, as would not come on at all.

The thermostat is the temperature dial; the dial adjusts what temperature the thermostat switches the fridge on and off. There's fridge manuals in the club downloads section, click 'Club Stuff' at the top of the page.
