Recon Turbo?

Post by rob1927 »

Hello all, does anyone happen to know where i could find a quality reconned turbo for my JX?
Funny story this, i bought the van last year here in finland, advertised as a 1.6TD JX, so being a complete novice at the time i didn't know what a turbo looked like, i'm currently halfway through removing the knackered cylinder head to replace it, i removed the exhaust manifold with what i thought was the turbo attached. So, i'm looking at the turbo and i'm thinking that looks a bit small, so i then checks out the old wiki, turbo section, just see what it should look like, lo and behold it would appear that i'm turboless! Where the buisness end of the turbo should be is just a round metal plate bolted in its place!
Now, i'm neither sad or downhearted cos when i put one on i think its gonna feel grand to drive. :D
I'm guessing the original turbo gave up the ghost and the previous owner just blanked off where it should go.
I researched turbos a little on line and learned that they have an oil intake and return, would it be possible that the previous owner removed it because there was a problem with the workings of this. What i'm saying is could it possible that its been removed because of a problem exterior to the turbo itself?
Am i gonna get much better performance with a turbo installed?
The bolts that fix it to the exhaust manifold are as tight as a glassblowers cheek, is this normal? I'm thinking i'll need to use some pretty extreme heat to remove them.

Cheers, turboless rob. :D

Bernd Jaeger sells new ones about 550 euros.
bolts are difficult to remove and can snap, he does them also but they are expensive for what they are.
