kayak carrying on hightop

anyone else strap a surf boat/kayak to their hightop?if you do can you help me out with the best way of doing so...my family keep dipping out bcos i take the camper and kayak and they either dont come or follow in the car!!!haha

I have a side bar for a surf board, but depends how big ya boat is if the same would work?

Or get the large roof rack that gets the bot on the very top?

This is uni strut ( used in building trades by sparkys etc), which is bolted permanently to the van

top image so you can see the shape of it

then made thsese ( the bit the surf board goes on )

which once slid into the unistrut you tighten these up , from the front, and its rock solid!

great idea mate like it,think ill have a pop at that....do you strengthen inside the high top to or just use washers???

I put some 12mm ply pads on the inside which iirc were about 150mm by 300mm

roof rack attached to the pop top, tho you may need beefier gas struts or pop eye food to be able to lift it !
