Blower not...
Hi all!
My blower has ceased to function.
There was no smoke, bang or anything noticeable, just one day not working.
I've checked the wiki which was very helpful with how to fix various issues... However, where should I start?
Is just likely to be a switch, in which case I could avoid dash removal, or is dash removal the way forward?
Cheers

Re: Blower not...
Hello,
sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but have you checked the fuse? I'd start there, then I'd look at the switch connections and switch itself, then I'm afraid it's time to get the multimeter out before condemning the resistors or the fan itself, and if it is there then yes it's a dash out job, but at least then you get to tidy loads of other stuff up and clear all the crap out of the blown air system!
Hope you manage to fix it
Ewen

Re: Blower not...
Just got back from Cornwall, so I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.
It's a 1990 1.6jx turbo... Anyone know which fuse I should be checking?
Cheers!

Haynes don't do a manual for the turbo diesels... Would it be the same as a petrol?

Ok, I've checked the fuse and sure enough it's blown.
Tried a new fuse... Nothing.
This suggests to me that the blower motor has probably given up.
Will check switches just in case.

And don't bother trying to free off the motor. By the time it reaches that stage its time for a new motor anyway. Most of them are already approaching 30 years old. A new one is the best way forward - before you really need it in the winter for demisting.

Re: Blower not...
Did mine last weekend. Not a job for the faint hearted but can be done with plenty of time. One bit of advice wopuld be to write down everything you take off / undo and put scews bolts etc into separate marked containers. Even so I still ended up with a few leftovers. Heres the thread I started which provided some helpful advice https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=106887" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Good luck!

Don't think so Jes. Everything seems to work OK and there are no annoying rattles.

Only took a few months, but I've finally completed the job!
Only one washer left over...
All in all not a bad job, but quite time consuming. I discovered some rodents had at one time been living in the the heater box, there was a lot of poo and bedding material, as well as hazelnut shells!
