Temperature light flashing

Went out today for a decent run - about half an hour or so temperature light started flashing and continued until I got back home. However when I turned the engine off and then restarted everything went back to normal ie flashed half a dozen times then went off - I checked fluid level just in case and it was normal as well as fan operating normally. Is this just an unexplained glitch or do I need to look for another cause ?

Have you checked the condition of the water level sensor in your header tank?

check the wiring, plus make sure the system if bled properly as if the main tank emptys the light goes on!
