Weight
We have a new 'Penalty Point Offence' on the Emerald Isle now and it refers to overloading a vehicle and it states that ....
'Anyone convicted for driving a vehicle that exceeds the permitted weight will be given three penalty points and could face a fine of up to €300'
So, what is the permitted weight of a vehicle? Google is, of course, your friend and the permitted weight referred to is the weights specified by the manufacturer. In the case of a Diesel Syncro the GVW is 2500kgs. I have read a number of times on here where people refer to their 'all up weight' as being 3 tonnes. Well guess what? Thats 500kgs over the limit so when you are buying uprated springs so you can carry extra weight etc just remember that the GVW is still the same!
Now while this new offence is aimed at the pikeys who overload their Transits, it tars everyone with the same brush so how heavy is your Syncro?

Re: Weight
I'd assumed you'd cleansed Your beautiful island of the ethnic travelling minority ( pc or what )!!?? as they all seem to be over here!!
I would only carry my mixer and about 20 bags of cement/ballast in my working panel (I do a fair amount of fencing where
the Syncro's traction is supreme )
Had a 110 landy before and it was pants!!

Re: Weight
Weighed mine today - 2220Kg!
Which doesn't leave much by the time 2 people, luggage, beer and food is added.
I did have 1/2 tank of petrol, 3 batteries, a compressor fridge and a 1/2 full LPG 100l tank, modest toolkit and usual syncronauts spares on-board.
No sink, no fresh water, no bicycles, no front bash plate.
[edited for typos]

Re: Weight
All of which pretty well reinforces the conclusions of this topic, that I put up a while back:
https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... 26&start=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A syncro Westy is really only good for 2 adults on a longer trip. Add in kids and clobber/tat and you're dangerously close to the GVW.
Tow a trailer and stay legal!

Re: Weight
My 2wd Westy worries me!
Never mind a Syncro.
60 litre tank on a 2wd 60kg give or take.
90kg ish per adult
55l of water, another 55kg there abouts..
Doesn't leave much left for kids or baggage never mind bikes and that. Yet, you see these displeasuredrives with their chipboard interiors loaded up to the gunnels with all manner of stuff happily killing off their 1.9 dg...

Re: Weight
For those who like to trawl though endless digitized brochures, go to vw-pix.org and look for the word "Zuladung" which is the available payload, for passengers and cargo.
Leergewicht (kerbweight) mit fahrer (driver) und voller kraftstofftank (full fuel tank) is the other key phrase.
Gesamtgewicht is the GVW.
The 1989 Westy Atlantic allegedly had 600 kg to play with according to the German brochure.
