diesel engine problem

ive just bought a t25 1.7 van,hasnt run for approx 2 years,problem is when i start it after a few seconds quite a lot of smoke comes out exhaust and on tickover engine vibrates quite alot and top end is rattly.all help appreciated.

The 1.7 KY was a really good engine but I am afraid mine had the same problems. When I took the head off there were several cracks between the valves so the poor old thing had had its day. Upgraded with a donor engine from a Caddy..... 1.9 1Y non turbo. This is a relatively easy swap and there is lots of info on here, sorry to be so negative, I could be wrong and your problems may not be the same as mine. Stick with it as the end result is very rewarding.
