Cu hot start

Post by aruntaylor »

Hi all.
My recently rebuilt CU starts first time, runs lovely. It's all tuned up running twin solex, elec ignition, new plugs, rotor, leads, plugs, coil, timing set, no exhaust leaks etc. Has electric fuel pump. it's mint...
But.
When it's hot it doesn't want to start. Takes ages to fire. I'm worried it won't start. It turns over fine. The starter spins like it should. Thats not the issue.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Hot start technique for Aircooled engines is:

Crank engine.
Slowly push throttle to floor until engine fires.
Release throttle.

Took me a while to get the hang of it and I still sometimes forget and pump the throttle once as if starting from cold, following which it is, of course, very unwilling to start.

If you're not already doing so, try the above.

Cold start is of course:

Ignition on.
Pump throttle once to set choke(s) and squirt some fuel into carb.
Off throttle.
Crank engine.
