Indicator mystery
All hazards work. All earths clean. New relay. New hazard switch. No indicators any ideas please???

i had this problem a couple of months ago ,pull the fuse and clean the terminals then replace with a new fuse.it worked for me 

1.9df petrol water cooled 1982 built registered 84 ,

Check fuse number 19. Hazards are on fuse 4 but indicators are on 19
(that's if you have a later fusebox with the blade type fuses)

hi mate,
had exactly the same problem a couple of weeks ago. the breakdown said it was the indicator relay, but it checked out ok. it turned out the cig lighter unit wasn't earthing prperly against the dashboard. once it was removed i had everything back to normal.

anything else on the dashboard could be causing a similar thing? ie i've hot a euro socket etc

Anyway back to the problem; by elimination we know that
1) the relay works because the hazards work
2) all the indicators work because the hazard works
3) the wiring from the relay to the indicators is intact and earths are good because of 1) and 2) above
4) fuse number 19 is fine because it's been checked (have you checked it with a meter or just visually?)
If you have a Haynes Manual the relevant wiring diagram is on page 12.35. There's not much left that can be the cause really. From fuse 19 the black/blue cable goes to terminal 15 on the hazard switch so you should have 12v arriving there; if not the cable has gone open circuit. This 12v should also appear on terminal 49 of the hazard switch with it in the 'OFF' position - you will also have 12v at terminal 49 in the 'ON' position too, but that is via fuse 4, not fuse 19. If these conditions are satisfied then that really only leaves the indicator switch itself or the actual cables connected to it as everything else checks out....

Would echo 1664. Visual check of fuses often not enough and the prob lies there or with connectors to that fuse. Certainly you need to physically remove them in turn as a hairline crack in a fuse can be hard to spot.

He's pulled the old stick to bits & bust open the bit that does the main beam & flash, can't get it back together correctly. He's been buggering about with it for the entire evening
sometimes I really dislike our van!
