Just fitted my second hand CB (Moonraker Minor) with new ariel and mount in advance of the Devon Syncro meet next weekend. I was mindful of what I'd read about SWR meters and what happens if the ariel is too far out of adjustment. But I wanted just to check if it worked and spent about five minutes listening to some truckers on channel 10. Then was flicking through the channels and all of a sudden it stuck on channel 33. It would then only go to channel 9 and now is stuck there. Also the squelch stopped working. Does that sound like I've cooked it? Is it likely to be repairable?

As you may (or may not know) I ran the CB and Electronics shop in Chester for a good few years. I did all the repairs as well. Your set uses a dedicated chip to control the up and down the channels function. It is highly likely that this chip is fried. Though it could possibly the mechanical action of the up / down buttons. Either way it is not a simple "swap a part" fix as the chip is not one that can be easily removed from it's pcb and the mechanical parts for the buttons are (to my knowledge) un-obtainable. Chuck it in the bin
Sorry to bring bad news but on the bright side, that was never a very desirable set anyway and the latest ones will blow it into the weeds performance wise. Plus they do not blow up if the aerial is not tuned correctly (btw, that's is nowt to do with your problem). Also they are cheaper than the were and £65 will get you a good one with all the (many) European channels thrown in eg = http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Midland-Alan- ... 2a20758d1d" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks very much - I had seen that you have a lot of experience in this field and was hoping that you might see my post! I was going to have to get a Euro version for next year anyway but had been hoping to put that off for a while. Interestingly the down channel button had previously stuck as well. Oh well - like KINGPRAWN says, "In too deep now"!
