Disconnect the battery and clean up the electrical connections to the starter motor (especially the spade connector on the little signal wire). Also disconnect and clean the earth connections, especially the one from the nose of the gearbox to the chassis. If you've got a petrol engine with a manual gearbox, consider changing the starter bush.

Do a search of the tech forums for "starter motor" or "hot start" or "warm start", there's lots of previous posts about this problem. Hope you soon have it sorted.

Hi Tony

Tried your advice from saturday morning but no Gold fish
This sounds like it could be the answer to the problem I'm having, will get under van ASAP and check wires to starter. found a reciept for a new starter motor fitted 2007 so that should be ok? can here a pinging springy noise when its spinning over though before it fires....

will keep you all posted

if the starter does not even try to turn the engine over id first check you had 12v on the ign feed, if you do great, if you dont then the fault will prob be the ign switch, very common fault, gotta be worth checking

. . . and it's an inexpensive part to replace, but having said that I couldn't do ours because despite following good info that I got from previous posts on here, I couldn't work out how to remove the old one, doh!! :(
