Re: spark plug type?
Options:
1. Take out a plug and measure it and / or order the same type.
2. Ask VEGE.
3. Fit long plugs, slowly turn the engine BY HAND, if it locks up, you need short plugs.
I'd go with option 1.
When we rebuild an engine, we mark it clearly (tippex on the tinware) if it needs short plugs. Short of asking them or stripping the engine, there's no way of knowing if VEGE used beetle parts or CT parts for the rebuild, or if they fitted decompression rings or not. Were you told to run it on unleaded or super unleaded (95 or 98)?

Re: spark plug type?
the vege engine was fitted when i bought the van so i don't know what was put in, but it runs on normal unleaded.
i guess the best way is to borrow the sparkplug spanner and get one out, i'm guessing the plugs will be available from anywhere?
cheers

Re: spark plug type?
We're discussing a CT engine that has been rebuilt. While it has likely been rebuilt as standard, it could have been rebuilt with beetle heads and barrels, which use shorter plugs, fit long plugs and they'll hit the pistons.
Plugs are W8AC (short) or W8CC (long), or W7AC/W7CC, buy same as you currently have.
The fuel question relates to the decompression rings between head and barrels, if not fitted the engine will have higher compression and might have been setup to run on 98 "super" unleaded.
I suspect the engine has been rebuilt to the original spec, but it makes sense to ask, particularly as beetle parts are cheaper and VEGE rebuild far more beetle motors than CT.
