Head unit dimmer wire.

Post by rob1927 »

Hello all. :D

I was wondering if anyone could throw a little light(pardon the pun) on where i connect the orange dimmer wire on my new head unit, i just looked at the wiring behind the headlight switch where the dimmer control is also located and theres many wires connecting in there. Is it really nescessary to connect the orange wire, or should i cut it off and weigh it in for scrap at the risk of being blinded by my radio?

The van is a 1988 caravelle.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers,

Rob.

You connect the Orange dimmer wire to ANY wire that becomes live when you turn the headlights on. Obviously this is usually the wire from the headlight switch that goes live when the switch is "on".

The wire should NOT go to the dimmer control on the dash.

The wire just dims the radio lights by a fixed amount when the vans lights are on, for night time driving (stating the obvious there  )
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here
