Cycle carrier when there's a ladder on the back

Post by Moyners »

Hi - first posting so please be patient with this 80-90 newbie ;)

I have an Autosleeper Trident - a high top with a ladder at the back.

Anyone aware of a cycle carrier that would fit, too?

Thanks.

Hi,

I've used one of these for the last 15 years, (still the same one) and when I bought my T25 autosleeper trident, c/w with ladder I put the rack on it and have transported cycles with no problem whatsoever. http://www.maxxraxx.co.uk/?gclid=CIefv4 ... tAodhAYAjQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . I am just in the process of buying a carrier to carry a 125cc vespa on the back and the following firm also does cycle carriers all of which sit proud of the ladder. http://www.davecooper.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Hope this assists. I can't speak too highly of the MaxxRaxx though and there's a lot of information/videos on their site.

Charlie.

Our Autosleeper has the Fiamma bike rack on the tailgate, alongside the ladder. It was like that when we bought it so I don't know if it's a bog standard Fiamma or if it has been modified in any way. Let me know if you want to see a photo of it.

Thanks Charlie and Tony.

We don't have a towbar - but I really like that idea and the idea of getting my Vespa on the back someday is also very appealing. How much would fitting a towbar come in at?

Tony - don't worry about a photo just yet - I'll see how I get on seeing if I can get a regular rack to fit (with a visit to a Halfords to start with). I might PM you at some point and ask for a pic if I don't get anywhere.

Hi, I have a auto sleeper trident too, I fitted a standard fiamma bike rack to it, no problems with it at all, I fitted the extra rail too, so I can carry three bikes

In the end I bought a £20 carrier from someone on ebay - straps on to the tailgate and holds the bikes proud of the ladder with no problem (and the seller said they'd take it back if it didn't fit).

The fact that the ladder is there has the extra benefit that I can padlock the bikes and carrier to the van for a bit of security - and should the carrier fall off for some reason they'll still be attached (perhaps dragging but still attached) to the van rather than under the wheels of the next vehicle to come along.

My concern is that I'll forget the carrier and bikes are on there one day and turn on and knacker the rear screen wiper - can anyone think of a way of putting in a switch or something to override the wiper control on the steering stalk?

P.
