Wading Checklist

Post by jes*b »

Clive's got me worried......(Devon pub crawl/swim) I don't have a clue apart from the obvious snorkel .... And breather pipes ob gearbox, How is a Syncro set up for wading? What should I check before taking the plunge? Are there any danger signs? What damage can be done? I remember Nick having some rear drum issues after Salisbury last year.

Good stuff, whoever Gordon was I take my hat off to him.
So..... Are there any pipes / hoses I should check for splits / leaks etc to keep water out. I'm a bit baffled by the physics of how a sh*t load of water doesn't do something nasty to all those hot moving parts .

It probably does but not to any of us! The turbo would be the only concern for a diesel driver

Give the air feed to the turbo a good looking over the long plastic pipe splits and will let in water a good preventative method is to place a ring of ally or steel pipe inside the plastic to give the jubilee clip something to grip onto and to stop the pipe cracking

Duct tape or go mad with the PU sealant (but you may struggle to dismantle it all next time with the latter)

Anyone found a syncro (carb only) wading valve yet or do I have to bodge mine, after being so cack-handed taking the engine out? :oops: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=103177" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Don't forget the marigold glove on the distributor, petrol fans! The Unicorn has the last known syncro dizzy condom in common use afaik - see for details.

Oh and if you are in the doka you might want to raise the air intake up beside the cab vent as opposed to leaving it standard in the gills on the side panel
