Hi,
Just wanting some advice on whether a repair is possible to the injector ports on this cylinder head or I should buy a new head (second hand ones seem few and far between and the cost involved with pressure testing and skimming may not deem them viable). Both number 1 & 2 injector ports have suffered cracking and recently number 2 injector has blown out. Other than this I believe there is nothing wrong with the cylinder head (it is now removed). Gasket was good, no oil in water and vica versa, block, cylinders and pistons all good, engine done just shy of 100k miles.
The issue........
So, what I am asking is....does anyone think it is viable to weld the damaged parts back in and have them re-tapped/helicoiled or some other method of restoring the threads (number 2 injector port threads are part stripped!) AND who would be your recomendations?? and expected cost??
OR should I plump for a new head?
This is available on German ebay....

Seems a bargain to me!? but probably the simplest solution all round.
All comments appreciated.
Many thanks,
Ashley
PS. EKTA states the head is 033 103 351, but as can be clearly seen in the image above mine is 033 103 373. Can anyone explain this?

Re: 1.7D KY Head ~ Repair possibilites??
Hi Ash,
I'd recommend to any customer in your position to buy new if at all possible. At that price it's a no-brainer. How the injector bosses have failed like that is anyone's guess!
Are the crack faces clean or dirty? If clean, then I'd be worried about hydraulic damage as the cause. If dirty than it's had a clump or been dropped in the past.
Can't say much more than that.
