Cracked pre-combustion chamber in my JX

Post by roscoe »

I've just completed a recondition of my JX engine and have found a hairline crack in the pre-combustion chamber (roughly 20 mm long). Before the recon the engine had a worn piston (due to over heating) and didn't allow for much pressure in the cylinder, but now it's up to full pressure i end up with exhaust gas and pressure in the coolant. I thought it could be the head gasket, but that was fine. In hindsight pressure testing the head would have been a good idea, but it didn't seem too necessary at the time since any lack of pressure in the cylinder i assumed was only due to the piston. I guess there's a lesson to be learnt there.

So i figure you all might find it interesting to know of this mishap: risk taken, didn't work out  Has anyone come across anything like this before? I contacted a place about getting it welded, but they said they doubt it can be fixed and wouldn't want to attempt it! Any ideas folks?

There's a couple of score marks on the left you can ignore, just a little over eager cleaning the carbon off!
