radiator support brackets

Post by The Bishop »

I'm having difficulty removing a bolt from the radiator support bracket, It feels like the nut welded to the other side has come loose. I assume there is a nut welded to the other side?

If I remove the bumber will I be able to gain access to this?

Thanks,

FI dont think you will mate as far as I can remember when I took mine off its a captive and no room to get a clamp on to hold it. Probably best to cut it off. . Just a thought but you might be able to cut the sides off the head of the bolt , remove bracket. Drill through to captive and spot weld it. I did summet similar with one of the rear bumper mounts

You're right with the bumper removed you can't access it.

So I cut the bolt heads off. They thread into captive bolts or lug bolts but the bolts were just revolving.
Unfortuately no one locally had the same size so cut a screw slit into the remaining bolt, heated it up with a blow lamp and managed to unscrew the shaft of the bolt.

Bought some new bolts and to avoid a similar problem in the future desided to weld the nut to the retaining clip. In doing it I managed to drop a bit of weld on one of the threads  so then had to cuts the thread again.

Still all done now and ready to put the rad back in when my son comes home to support it for me. :ok
