Bloody horn!!

Hi

Wondering if anyone can help. I've searched these forums and the Internet, but can't see anything conclusive (unless I'm totally blind!!).

I had to change my ignition switch recently. After I put the steering wheel and parts back together, the horn stopped working.

I've got an MOT coming up, so I took the wheel off to check connections etc. All looks good. I cleaned the contacts and tested across the metal plate terminals on the steering column housing, and the horn sounded.

However, when I put it all back together, it still doesn't work. However, now when I turn sharply, the horn sounds.

I've read that it could be an earth somewhere, but I'm mystified how the horn works when I put a contact across the terminals, but not when it is all together.

I don't want to put it in a garage if I can fix it myself!!

Any advice greatly appreciated

Not familiar with the horn connecting ring on a T25, but if its anything like others I am familiar with, then there should be a spring loaded connector, which may not be making contact fully.

Check that the contact ring is clean, then check the spring loaded connector to ensure its not only clean, but its spring is strong, and pushing its contact onto the copper connection ring fully.

Checked that and it looks fine. It contacts with the ring and the spring tension is good.

Looks like it is something else....

The only other thing I can think of Jason, is a poor earth causing the issue.

At the bottom of my steering column (you have to remove the cowle) I found a wire coming out of the hollow tube that is the bottom end of the steering column, this had a female spade connector on the end but wasn't connected to anything, I found a male spade connector attached to the steering column itself so I linked them up and my poor intermittent horn problems are now fixed. I guess it's the earth for the horn 9A brown wire

This may not help but last year my horn would work one day and not the next, took everything apart, cleaned everything but still not right until i adjusted the screw on the horn itself- works perfectly.

Think I'll try the bottom of the steering wheel, I'll take it apart over next few days and have a look.

Don't think that is the issue, as horn does sound when I cross terminals. However, it sounds crap, so think I may have to adjust the screw anyway, to get a better sound.

Knowing my luck, I'll fix the horn and the MOT will fail on something else!!
